At Woodcraft Kids, we strive to build more than just cool projects; we are on a mission to build confidence, leadership and community amongst the youth in a screen-free environment! With little hands and big ideas, students can work together or independently to create things that bring joy to our schools, neighborhoods, and each other. Whether we're making birdhouses for the garden, shelves for our homes, or gifts to share, every project helps us learn to make our dreams into a reality. Woodcraft Kids believes that when children build with purpose and perseverance, they help make the world a better (and more creative!) place.
Woodcraft Kids will introduce your child to the fundamentals of tool use through the art of woodworking, practical building techniques, and applied math skills. All beginners start by crafting a classic spin top toy, or a simple toy car. Both of these fun, engaging projects will provide a foundational understanding of our hand tool kit and how to use them safely and effectively.
After completing their first projects, students may choose from a curated selection of guided sample projects and eventually be encouraged to propose their own original ideas. Sample projects include birdhouses, toy cars & boats, jewelry boxes, bookshelves, and more, limited only by imagination.
Throughout the program, students will gain hands-on experience with tools such as brace drills, eggbeater drills, try squares, coping saws, hand saws, hammers and C-clamps. This program not only promotes creativity and craftsmanship in a fun, screen-free environment, but also builds lifelong skills in problem-solving, precision, and perseverance.
As a Bay Area native raised by a strong, loving mother who immigrated from Guatemala, I learned early on the value of hard work, creativity, and resilience. My mom had a special kind of magic in her hands when she was working with wood. In our garage, with just a block of wood, she found peace. Through all the ups and downs of life, woodworking was her happy place, and I grew up watching her turn this peace she’d found into tangible beauty with patience, focus, and love.
Years later, a friend introduced me to the concept of sharing those skills with children, and something clicked. In today’s fast-paced, screen-heavy world, kids need a place to slow down, get their hands on real tools, and build something they can be proud of. That’s why I started Woodcraft Kids.
Woodcraft Kids is more than a woodworking class – it’s a space for kids to unplug, tap into their creativity, and gain confidence through hands-on building. Every project is a chance for them to feel grounded, focused, and proud of what they’ve made. And for me, it’s a deeply personal joy to share the craft that shaped my childhood and gave my mom so much peace.
